Back yard...

The process...

Wow, this brings back many memories of the past six years!  We forget how much we've done until we see photos like these.  Our dog was sporting a lot less gray and our son was itty bitty.  Lovely dirt yard with no lawn...gosh, that seems like forever ago!

Nothing from the front yard stayed.  In the back we kept an orange tree, a kumquat tree and some calla lilies that were moved.  We tried for a couple years to save an apple and peach, but they were too far gone...

Today...

Even now, the yard evolves.  The landscape is ever-changing and I am always moving plants, adding something new, figuring out how to live with these crazy chickens nibbling their way around (a.k.a. Ava, Judy and Izzy), creating a tortoise habitat, building outdoor furniture, having spaces for entertaining, astronomy and s'mores nights...and finally able to enjoy the serenity that comes from creating a beautiful space.

Improvements...

Everything.  Can I just say everything and leave it at that?

Being happiest in my garden, my landscape has been a labor of love.  That horticulture degree has really paid off!  We did layout and had help from family concrete professionals.  Also had lawn sprinklers redone and sod put in.  The drip I did myself and the design I spent forever (for-ev-er) on.  My husband waited patiently while I revised and searched endlessly for my perfect plants.  I think I ended up finally finding every last one, but it took a lot of road trips to a lot of different nurseries!  Then began the planting and making sure everything had water to it.  He also built a new front porch and we put the stone on the front.  Of course the house being painted, new windows, garage door, fence and stain, etc. etc. etc.
